Nick CatliffManaging Director, Lion Television Nick is one of the founders of Lion Television and is currently joint managing Director of Lion in the UK and President of Lion Inc in the USA. Nick is currently executive producer of Britain from Above a multi-platform project for the BBC which includes parallel television series on BBC1, 2 and 4 as well a major on-line presence across the web and a number of mobile platforms. Nick is also currently executive producer of The Rough Guide to... and Extreme Rough Guide two new travel strands for the UK terrestrial channel Five. Most recently Nick has been responsible for Lion’s output at the UK’s largest commercial network ITV and recent series include Guarding the Queen which took cameras behind the scenes with the iconic Grenadier Guards and Summer of Noise which took a sideways look at noise pollution. Nick’s credits as executive producer at Lion include: The Queens Cavalry an eight part documentary series about the household cavalry for BBC1 and Great Undertakings an acclaimed 6 x 30 documentary series for C4, Kumbh Mela an RTS award winning 20 x 10 daily programme from India, Castle a 6 x 30 history series presented by Marc Morris, The Maze a 75 minute documentary about the infamous prison for C4/WGBH/RTE, Fashion House a 6 week reality series set in Rome for C4/TV3/Sky Italia, four series of “Trial By Jury” a 3 x 60 factual based courtroom drama for BBC2, Beat The Bailiff and Beat the Burglar both factual entertainment formats for BBC Daytime and a range of factual programmes for Five including LAX an eight part doc-soap about Los Angeles airport for Five/A&E, Hitler's Britain and The Real CSI. In addition Nick has been responsible for a wide variety of Lion’s output in the USA. As well as being the executive producer of the original series of “History Detectives” Nicj has been the exec on other PBS series including Children's Hospital Chicago, Boston Law a ten part BBC/WGBH co-production, Taxi Dreams for PBS/BBC, Lawrence of Arabia for DDE/PBS/BBC2. Nick has also made a wide variety of programmes for a number of other American networks including Journey Through the Valley of The Kings for TLC/C4, Legal Action for TLC, Coroners for MSNBC, Death Scene Investigators for MSNBC/Five, Class of '75 for Discovery Health, Law Wars for CBS, LAX for A&E/Five, Texas SWAT and SWAT USA for Court TV. Before becoming one of the founders of Lion Television, Nick was at the BBC which he joined as a graduate trainee. While at the BBC he worked on a range of current affairs and investigative programmes as a producer and director. He was the series producer of The Trial for BBC2 the first time television cameras had been allowed inside British courtrooms. He also created Airport for BBC1 which has gone on to be the longest running doc-soap on British television. Nick also made single documentaries for BBC1's Inside Story strand and also for BBC2's 40 Minutes. |
